ST MARY'S UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, TWICKENHAM

The Shannon Building is a new two storey extension to the existing refectory building serving the St Mary’s campus.
The new block provides a new kitchen at ground floor with meeting rooms above it. The existing dining hall has been enlarged and refurbished so that there is direct access from the seating area to outside space. Staff and students now have improved facilities and a better environment.

The building has a structural steel frame. Floor beams are long-span cellular beams with web holes designed and detailed to accommodate complex services routes over the kitchen. Floor slabs are reinforced concrete.

The single storey extension has a lightweight roof construction – a combination of steel trusses and engineered timber I-beams – to minimise the additional loads imposed on the original structure at the junction between the new building and the existing dining room.

We were appointed for the next phase of college improvements, R-Block, which will provide a new gymnasium and body conditioning facilities. It is a designated training centre for the 2012 Olympic Games.
