UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON

We are currently working on a number of projects for UCL under a Framework Agreement. These include:

Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre & Fluids Laboratory
New lecture theatres at ground and first floor levels in existing 12 storey faculty building & refurbishment of fluids laboratory at basement level. The new teaching spaces are constructed by demolishing an existing double storey height lecture theatre and infilling the void with 2 new storeys. Our work included the provision of a detailed construction methodology with consideration given to site set up, access, sequencing and temporary works.
Architect: Levitt Bernstein

Darwin Building
Refurbishment of the Department of Biochemistry building.
Architect: Architon

John Dodgson House
Feasibility studies and preliminary designs for the addition of 3 storeys to an existing building to house student residences. Work involves strengthening the existing building to support the weight of the additional storeys.
The new rooftop accommodation is designed to be fabricated off-site and craned into position as fully fitted out modules.

Chandler House
The reburbishment of a Victorian teaching building in Wakefield Street, WC1, to provide updated facilities for the Department of Psychology and Language Sciences. The upgraded building provides teaching rooms at basement level, a ground and first floor lecture theatre, and three floors of offices (including a new floor built on the roof). It was a design and build contract.
Architect: AEM Studio
Project Value: £7m, Completion: 2008

James Lighthill House
Built on the grounds of an existing hall of residence, the scheme provides new accommodation comprising 20 student study rooms with shared kitchen and dining facilitiies. The new block is sandwiched between a seven storey student accommodation block and a 6m boundary wall which forms the back of the new building. Built on a very tight urban site the project fits well with UCL’s strategy of maximising the use of existing sites.
Architect: Levitt Bernstein
