The extensive restoration and modernisation of this Grade I listed property to convert it back from office accommodation to a luxury air conditioned home with an extended basement incorporating a new covered swimming pool and winter garden.

A high degree of care was taken to preserve the integrity of the historic timber floor structure whilst providing routeing for a highly serviced property. The majority of the primary items of plant have been housed in a new basement formed under the mews property thus minimising changes to the roofscape. Some minor items of plant have been incorporated within the roof and ceiling voids without losing the original structural fabric.

To generate the large pool hall the walls of the study wing, which was built 20 years after the main house, have been removed at basement level and replaced with widespan steel structures. These were installed prior to any demolition to minimise disruption caused by temporary works and in such a manner as to retain the original rear terrace structure.

Additional work involved the design of an all-glass conservatory which was specified to act as a transparent link between the historic building and the new terrace over the pool hall complete with a structural glass floor. At the rear of the terrace adjacent to the mews we have provided an opening glass and steel rooflight, 4m x 4m, which opens the new winter garden to the elements in fine weather.
