JULIAN BIRCH BEng, MScEng, CEng, MIStructE Julian has a degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Structural Engineering from the University of Liverpool. He worked in the Bridges Section of Parkman Ltd Consulting Engineers where he was responsible for the design and site supervision of the Lowry Millennium Footbridge (92m span vertical lift bridge) from inception to completion. Julian joined MBP in 1999 and became a Principal when the Partnership converted to an LLP in 2007. His MBP projects include: Social housing such as the award winning Lingham Court, and an £11m light gauge steel mixed housing development, Riverside Cambridge. Northumberland House in Westminster was a £35m project to restore and expand a Grade II listed hotel; Lowndes Square, the sensitive addition of new penthouses over the 6th floor of existing flats at four properties in Belgravia; Longmartin Estate Redevelopment, Covent Garden, a large redevelopment of three existing properties in Covent Garden to provide a mix of retail, commercial, residential and car parking. |

MALCOLM
BRADY BEng, CEng, MIStructE Malcolm graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Paisley in 1990. His early training was at Babtie Shaw & Morton working on large civil and structural engineering projects, and at Mouchel Consulting on a variety of projects including Green Park tube station and the redevelopment of Harwich International Port. Malcolm joined MBP in 1997 becoming a Principal in 2009. He was project engineer for the Dreadnought, the conversion of the Grade II listed former seamen's hospital, and Queen Mary Quarter of the former Royal Naval College for use by the University of Greenwich. Other projects include the flagship store and office for Borders UK in Charing Cross Road, new offices and live/work units in Bermondsey, the remodelling of Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, a new Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford, St Mary's University College Twickenham and a new PDC for Queensbridge School, Hackney. |

ANTHONY
HAYES
BSc, CEng, MIStructE Tony graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1986, following this with postgraduate research into the use of computers in civil engineering. He worked at Ove Arup & Partners on hospital and commercial developments before joining MBP in 1988. He became a partner in 1997. At MBP he has completed numerous new bookshops for Books Etc and Borders including their flagship store in Charing Cross Road. He worked on the refurbishment of the Grade II listed Museum No1 at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and has worked on a large number of high specification refurbishment projects in Belgravia and Chelsea. Examples are the restoration of a large Grade I listed house in Belgrave Square and the phased redevelopment of Chesham Place Estate. Other work includes The Cross, a new office building at King's Cross, innovative prefabricated housing such as Percy Street and a large luxury housing development in Manresa Road, Chelsea with a project value of over £42m. Tony is currently working on new mixed use developments in Central and East London as well as a range of housing projects. Tony became a Principal of the Practice in 2007 when the Partnership converted to an LLP. |

NIRUPA
PERERA BSc, CEng, MIStruct E Nirupa graduated from the University of Sussex in 1977 and trained with consultants in London gaining experience in the design of multi-storey offices, steel framed industrial units and housing schemes. At the BBC, he worked on the design of a new complex of studios in White City. Nirupa joined MBP in 1984 becoming a partner in 1989. His projects at MBP include the award winning Millennium Seed Bank for the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, and the conversion and extension of an old Corn Exchange in King's Lynn to form a new concert hall. He has worked on new school buildings, various university projects such as the Southwood Development, University of Greenwich, and a concert hall for the Yehudi Menuhin School. Recently completed are the restored Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds, a new extension to the Jodrell Laboratory at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the new multi-award winning Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford. Nirupa was a member of the Design Task Force of the Construction Innovation Strategy Panel (CRISP) set up by the DETR. Nirupa became a Principal of the Practice in 2007 when the Partnership converted to an LLP. |
